I would love to use this camera with a flash, any options apart from the Sony F60M?
Anybody using off camera flash, especially with wireless triggers?
My understanding is that the hotshoe on this camera is not the standard Sony hotshoe and does not support some previously supported triggers.

There's a new 43 flash coming out this month, which is the same as existing 43AM but fits the standard hot shoe and doesn't require the adapter.

I've had good luck just using the little pop up flash as an optical trigger for a handheld speedlight with optical sensor. The leaf shutter can sync really fast and its such a quick and simple means of wireless triggering with no extra gear to carry save for the speedlight on its own

From what I can tell (and its pretty clever that they don't go out of their way to show the bottom of the case), you have to remove the case to access the card slot and battery.

That's just as it used to be; you usually needed to get the never ready case off for every 24th or 36th image... This case is luxury; the RX1 battery is good for at least 150 images...

TMaG82, I would prefer the new Gariz case with grip but it costs 3 times as much. In the end, this case can be quickly removed without any tool.

I have the original Gariz, works fine, I like the metal base and have a small tripod socket mounted on it. No access for both battery and card would be a deal killer for me...

you are about to fire off 5-10 shots and the battery dies, imagine futzing around with your gleaming new case and the spare battery, then reconstructing the whole shebang, before you get to shoot another frame. Might be nice for posing, but not for shooting. Joe88 reportedly uses 5-6 batts on a shoot, he would get RSI from the case changes alone.

It takes me about 10 seconds now to reach into my small bag, flip out the new battery, swap then shoot. plenty of practice!

I hope Boeing or someone comes up with a new hi-tec Li-ion battery technology so we get 500 shots to a charge. Without a fire.

I have had similar cases before, the problem isn't so great.
Until now, I always have enough battery life for a day. I put the camera to charge for a night, along with my smartphone. Your mileage may vary.
By the way, neither case provides access to the USB port.

My 2 port charger set.

P.S. The original Gariz case hasn't any grip.

Thats a flash setup, tulaev. I'm old tech, have a ebay charger and two genuine batts but I 'work' a lot in India, and their power is worse than where you are, for sure, wherever you are!

Their infrastructure is old Soviet stuff, and power supply is sporadic, can disappear anytime for any length of time, goes out for maybe 6-8 hours each day, and also it is about half the actual power, so batts take an eternity to charge. The little RX ones much longer than the NP whatevers for the a99. Dunno why.

As we help each other with gear, I am getting hold of a 'Bip' soft release by I think Match Technical Thumbs Up. I'll let you know if I give it the thumbs down or up. The idea is to let you use the finger rather than the finger pad for better control. One guy at DPR reckons up to 'a stop', I guess he means double the shutter speed. I can do with a reliable 1/50s, right now I'm more comfortable at 1/100s.

I also live in an area with old Soviet infrastructure, but it seems better than in India.
About Thumbs Up: in my opinion, RX1 already provides a good finger rest.

I'm looking for your advice on a tripod setup. I've picked out the ball head, I'm going with the RRS bh-30 and settled on either the Gitzo GT0531 or the 0541. Reason being right now they're having a $150 mail-in rebate on them. I know the difference between the 0531 and the 0541 is the number of sections of legs (3 vs 4), the fact tht the 0541 folds to 2" smaller and is taller. S this would make the 0541 the obvious choice right? But I keep hearing that especially with these 2 the legs are a lot thinner and that worries me because I keep reading that 3 sections are more stable than 4.

Thoughts?

Feather-light tripods are never going to be super stable. I think you're splitting hairs.

I have a Gitzo GT0531 that I use with a small Leitz ball head for backpacking and it is surprisingly stable, especially if it is not fully extended. I am planning to get a RRS BH-25 to put on it. However, for general photography/landscapes taken not far from the parking lot I prefer a much bigger tripod.

At three grand ( GBP) the camera was a no-no for me although I've been absolutely loving the picture thread. However on Ebay I see that they're now as low as GBP1500- Now at this price I'm very seriously interested. Is this too good to be true? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SALE-BRAND-NEW-SONY-CYBER-SHOT-DSC-RX1-FULL-FRAME-COMPACT-DIGITAL-CAMERA-24-3-MP-/121099631615?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_DigitalCameras_DigitalCameras_JN&hash=item1c3219bbff

Any ideas?

I'd contact them, Chris, and ask any questions you have, like warrantly and service. I buy quite a bit of stuff from them, for over 4-5 years here in Oz, never had a problem - they even offer Aust warranty. Might be good for you. PM me if you want more. I am not connected to them I hasten to add.

That effects us in Germany, Carsten. But in the U.S.... I'm pretty sure digital cameras are duty-free. So no Zollamt to deal with.

I will second Philip, I have bought Canon gear from DWI before without any problems. Based in Singapore is my understanding. Shipped without a hitch to Australia
