If true, very likely as the tech is sorted out very well in the '1', what will it be?

I bet it will be one with a 50mm lens.

Picture styles and creative modes I think he's asking about, such as the rich black and white or high contrast modes etc

Yep, I'm just not sure why he's asking me. I haven't mentioned these filters, I don't think. I keep the camera in neutral jpeg setting and shoot raw.

I may have misunderstood you, I thought you meant that you had bought a B & Wt filter for your RX 1??

Ah ha! Now I got ya. I was speaking about B+W the company, not B&W as in no color. It's the 49mm B+W XS-Pro 007 Clear MRC nano, which is just a clear protector filter, and I use it instead of a lens cap, essentially.

B+W is a brand name, not B&W as in black n' white. What exactly it stands for I'm not sure but I think its German

Apparently, it stands for Biermann and Weber, who founded the company. It was later absorbed by Schneider Optics...according to Google. Just as good as having a filter made by Zeiss!

hmm, maybe it'll be one with a built in viewfinder or flip up screen? perhaps i should hold of my purchase a bit more... or alternatively maybe i should stop looking at gear sites.

August announcement means might not be able to take delivery til around the Holidays though, which would mean maybe a wait after that depending on demand, so could be a pretty long wait for what remains a bit of a hypothetical product

Judging by how crammed in everything is on the RX1 (the sensor is near the back of the camera, unlike NEX,) my guess is that the new RX camera will simply be a new focal length that uses the same accessories.

I suspect a new focal length only as well. It's pretty obvious that Sigma has had pretty good response from doing that lately.

A 50mm makes a lot of sense. But I'd rather an 85mm.

I would be surprised to see a 50mm given the current 35. My guess is either significantly wider (20-24) or longer (60-85). If I had to guess, I would say it would be wider as I think that makes more sense with a fixed lens camera. Imagine how tempting an RX1W with a Zeiss 21 would be?

Yeah, I wouldn't be interested myself, but I'd guess a wide.

Something very similar, keep to the formula. Wider would be better, you can crop easily to 50mm as is. Wider is more in keeping with a close distance camera, cafes, kids, families, dogs, cats, gardens, etc.

I'd certainly like a 21, or a 70mm (50mm is too close to 35mm I and I don't think they'd get many additional sales from RX1 owners)

Problem is though, while buying 2 or 3 Sigma Merrill's is pretty easy to rationalize, those are $800 cameras, instead of $2800 cameras.

I just couldn't really ever see myself wanting to carry 2 or 3 RX's around. Not only would it be close to $9000, but while the smallest FF around, it would still get a bit heavy, and rather defeat any weight savings. Probably lighter to carry a couple lenses instead.

Additionally, while I do like wide angle, how useful is say a 21 or even a 24mm daily ? I do own wides, but I use them for only specific shots and they really don't work too well for general snapshots etc.

Would anyone want to go out with just a 21mm RX style camera ? Be pretty limited for $2800

Likewise, 75 or 85mm, again, great focal length, but a bit limited in what you can shoot other than short portraits and such. Couldn't imagine going away on a weekend trip and wanting to take just a small light camera and being stuck with something so tight. Especially for $2800 again.

Could maybe do a 21 and 75, or 24 and 50 or whatever, but I think carrying 2 bodies rather defeats part of the point of the RX style camera.

Its about having something really minimal, just a single focal length with great IQ. No need for camera bags, lots of weight etc. Just something you can carry around all day, not get tired and still get get images from.

I got it, thanks Douglas13 et al. I tend to use a Polarizer filter instead of a lens cap, but know there are some thoughts against that arrangement ! joanlvh
