Some people would rather get a newer lens, rather than one that is 15 years old. Given that prices remain fairly constant, why not get something newer?

FWIW I am also interested in seeing some pics. Need more range than my 300mm gave me yesterday.

That's correct. If no one cares, I might have cared less. (rprouty, since you're a long-time member, I will have to assume that it's not that you don't understand what date code means.)

When selling an L lens, 99% of the time you'll see people asking for its date code. In general, newer lenses will fetch you more money when you sell them.
