Nice shots Ralph.

I'm not a spray and pray guy anyway. I usually am on and off the shutter button in any given sequence. If you stand next to me while I'm shooting it's a double tap...double tap....double tap. As opposed to a long burst.
Ditto. FPS is the least of my concerns. If anything, I'll end up throttling the 5D3 back to Low continuous so my flashes can keep up.

We all know the high ISO performance of the new Canons is really great, but the big takeaway from this first shoot was how well you can use fill flash from across the flipp'in football field! High speed sync really cuts down on flash power, but I found myself turning it down to like -2/3 or even -1 (ETTL). What I was trying to do was just get a little "puff" of light into the helmet. What I found was the flash wasn't working very hard at all. I was able to do my double taps and still get the flash to fire more than one frame (normal recycle on my 580 ex2 w/ a cp-e3 on a full dump is around 2 sec). ...Show more →
Yep, I was able to take over 300 hypersync flashes on Friday with one set of eneloops. Of course it helps having multiple speedlites, but that's still very good performance.
I've been very impressed with my 5D3. But I won't be taking it to a Friday Night game until PW adds it to the firmware. They're getting close... here's an update from a few days ago...

Status of 5D Mark III Compatibility with MiniTT1 and FlexTT5
So. Burlington, VT – August 27, 2012 - We have a version of the ControlTL firmware that includes compatibility for the 5D Mark III that is very promising. We are hard at work testing it with both the 5D Mark III and all the other previously compatible Canon cameras, flashes, and transmitters. Please keep in mind, the beta and the official release must be compatible with all currently supported cameras in addition to the 5D Mark III - we cannot separate one version out for just one particular camera.
Testing is going well and we are making progress every day. That being said a bug could pop up at any given moment and delay the release of the firmware. To complete our testing as quickly as possible we have dropped all other tasks in our support office to get this testing done. This means we’re not answering the phone, not responding to emails and not answering questions on Facebook for a few days. Although we are hopeful to have a release within the next couple of weeks, we cannot give any definite date on when this firmware will be available.
We are just as eager to provide full support for the 5D Mark III as you are to employ it in your photography. We recognize the popularity and importance of this camera and we fully appreciate the impact that this has on your workflow. Our goal is to deliver firmware that you will have confidence in....Show more →
