But will that translate to 16 bit images?

Yes, 16-bit RAW images only. Too bad Nikon decided not to include 16-bit RAW for D4/D800/E.

Is it assumed to be a Sony sensor?

I can not see this being under US$2,000 unless Nikon want to cannibalise the sales of the D800/E. US$2,000 - 2,200 perhaps.

No confirmed info but there was a rumor a while back Aptina (V1/J1 sensors) was working on FF sensor for Nikon.

It might be a Nikon+Aptina design, based on previous rumors.

Maximum shutter speed of 1/4000 would be a deal breaker for me. I like fast glass!!

Yeah what's up with that? 16 bit is meaningless to me.

16 bit image processing is NOT 16 bit RAW. My D700 has 16 bit image processing.

My heart sank a bit when I saw the 1/4000th spec... HOWEVER, I rarely need to shoot that fast. With fast glass, I'm normally shooting in low light conditions or am limited to 1/250th flash sync speed anyways. 1/4000th is still tack sharp for the fastest moving objects, so I'd just have to stop down a bit if I was too wide open for the lighting conditions. Trying to convince myself that I don't care about this too much... Do I? I don't think so.

No Sony sensor, the size is different.
I read somewhere it's 24,7 Mpx and Sony's is 24.2 (or something )

D700 can only allow you to choose either 12-bit or 14-bit RAW.
