I think PPA used to use Marsh, but they may have changed since then.

Your auto company wont offer you a "Personal Effects Binder?" We have State Farm and that's what they call it.

I use Hill & Usher Package Choice...although, not sure if it's worth it for a one time thing....it's a commercial policy and includes liability....from what i've heard it's cheaper if you wanna do one of those add on policies to your auto or homeowners insurance....

USAA has great rates as an add-on to homeowners. Not sure who you have for homeowners, but if they don't offer individual riders for jewelry and expensive equipment you might want to look elsewhere to see what you can find.

When I was shopping for renter's insurance, I spoke to one rep from esurance. He said my personal properties including photo equipments are protected even when I am on vacation. (ex.) Stolen from vacation site/hotel, accidental damages, etc. I end up getting the insurance from Mercury Insurance because of multi policy discount. However, esurance rep was very knowledgeable and it is backed by Allstate.

I'm planning on looking into a personal articles policy through State Farm. I think this would be better than a homeowners add-on for a couple of reasons. One is that claims on homeowners insurance can lead to problems down the line. Another is that my homeowner's deductible is quite large and I don't want a deductible that size for my camera equipment. I have a personal articles policy on my wife's engagement and wedding rings so I don't see why I wouldn't be able to get one for camera equipment. I'll let ya know once I talk to them.

Give your local State Farm agent a call and ask about Personal Items Insurance. I have it with State Farm, even though my homeowners and auto are with another company.

Good luck.

I have covered camera gear (and jewelry) through a personal articles policy with State Farm for years. I have had to file four claims in 25 years, and each has been handled quickly with no problems.

I've had State Farm personal effect insurance for my camera equipment the past few years and I highly recommend them. There's no deductible and they handle claims quickly with no problems. I've only had to file a claim once when I broke one of my more expensive lens and needed to get it repaired. They're reasonably priced also, for about $5,000 worth of camera equipment I only pay about $70/year.

Although this may be only of little help, I shoot anyway. In germany there are a couple of specialized offers for insuring camera gear. All the things a photog needs - what if stolen out of hotel room, from a car, tent, accidentally dropped gear etc. Did you try and google this or browse some photo forums? I bet you have sth similar in the states. You have so much amazing stuff we don't have in good ol' germany

I believe the big two (specializing in camera gear) are
Hill and Usher
Tom Pickard

After looking into what Farmers would have charged me (beyond existing homeowner's insurance), I went with Pickard. Pricy, but so far so good. Friendly service on the front end. No claims yet, so I have no basis for a recommendation. But there's a great deal of feedback on the 'net.

I also go through state farm and a personal articles policy.

its about 170 a year for all my gear... (18k worth of stuff, camera/laptop etc)

It covers accidents, theft, etc... basically anything.
