p.1 #6 · NIKKOR 55-300 ED VR or Sigma 70-300 DG OS | |
I have the 55-300, as well as the Tamron 70-300 VC. I use them on a D7000, and my son uses them on his D5100. The 55-300 focuses slow. Really really slow, and it is nowhere near as sharp as the Tamron. Its only positive, in my opinion, is the size. It is tiny compared to the Tamron, and weighs quite a bit less.
I used to own the Canon 70-200 f/4 L... Only lens I ever missed after switching to Nikon. The Tamron comes close to filling that void in terms of image quality and focus speed. I'm sure the Nikon 70-300 would also be awesome, but I found a really good deal at Adorama for a used Tamron... under $300.
I've thought about selling the 55-300 on Craigs List, but it's not worth that much, and it doesn't hurt to have duplicate focal lengths in the house.
