So, how many clicks of the zoom in button des it take to get to 100% magnification? I ask because I like to use the rear LCD for focus checking after the shot and don't need to zoom in more than 100%. Thanks.

Peace,

Todd

You can set the main thum dial to zoom to 100% with one click. Check your custom settings.

^ what he says

Menu > Custom Settings > f Controls
f2 controls what you need
Playback Mode > Zoom on/Off > Medium Magnification (100%)
High Magnification (200%)

Works beautifully although in AF-C with AF set to to AF-ON only, the zoom in is not always on the actual AF point used. Not sure whether I missed a setting or whether in AF-C you need to hit the shutter while pressing AF-ON to record the AF point properly.

I believe the high magnification setting is 100%, though. At least that way it looks similar as on my monitor when I go to 100%

Medium is definitely 100%. I chimp more than I would like to admit, and this is a super convenient way to check focus.

I am not familiar with the D800, but on every other Nikon camera I've had, you can set the selector to zoom to 100% by clicking it.

I have always used the center button to show the histogram. Too bad they don't allow adjustment to the +/- zoom buttons to facilitate one push =100%.

Thanks for the answers guys - I'm with you James, I use the center button to show the histogram but I think I'll use Bruce's suggestion, at least for a while. Again, thanks for all the comments.

Peace,

Todd

On my D300 I use the center button for zooming in to 100%. The Display button is left so that I have the image review and histograms when that is pressed.

Alright, I set the center button to 100% and discovered that it is 9 presses of the zoom button to get to 100%. I also decided to keep the center button as 100% zoom since it locks on the focus point. Again, thanks for the help.

Peace,

Todd
