p.1 #1 · Monitor Calibration tool

Well hello everyone!

I am just beginning my semi-professional photography journey and wanted to ensure that the work I create digitally is transposed correctly on photo paper. I won't be doing the printing but would like to hear some recommendations on good monitor calibrators.

I like the Spyder 4 Pro. I used to be an i1 Display 2 user, but recent releases of the Mac software are flat-out broken.

I no longer have an i1D2 but I recall reading that they (XRite) released a Leopard+ version of the s/w. Go visit their website.

Avoid the i1 display 2 - it is old technology and not especially reliable either. The new i1 Display Pro is far better and more consistent and more accurate and works with more monitors. They also have a new ColorMunki that is much the same but slower and somewhat cheaper. Avoid the old colorMunki that is still sold because like the i1 display 2 it does not work with the latest monitor technologies. On the other hand, it can do printer profiles and so it would not necessarily be a bad thing to have as well as an i1 display pro.

The spyder 4 might be better if you want to use it with an iPad. I think only spyder has profiling software for the iPad. Check the details for yourself if applicable.

That is simply not true. In fact, it's better suited to a range of backlights than most colorimeter based devices.

I have very good experience with i1 Display Pro. I have it paired up with NEC PA241W monitor and Spectraview II software which supports HW calibration and it's a joy to use.

I use the color munki with spectraview on my NEC PA241W monitor and it work very will. The good thing about the colormunki is that it can do printer as well.

If your not sure and you live in Brooklyn or the city I will more than happy to let you try it out.
