I came across this diffusor in an ad for the Gralon diffusor and just wanted to know if anyone has tried it:
http://graslon.com/shop/graslon-prodigy-dome-flash-diffuser/

Always looking for something that softens on camera flash and i wanted to know how this compares to the Lumiquest or Honl traveller soft box.

I also wanted to know if it gets in the way of the sensors for the Canon EX600 flash.

I haven't tried the dome one, but I have the flat one, and it's excellent. I've seen reflections of it firing, and the light is totally even over the entire surface - there's no bright spot. I highly recommend it.

What's the difference between the Prodigy and the Insight versions? On their website, it looks very similar in design and a $30 difference in cost.

Prodigy = 8wx5hx3d
Insight = 7wx4hx3d
Less area = harsher shadows

Local store had the Insight version available, looked really good. I need to see if I got space in my bag though, got way too much gear for 1 bag

Just received my Prodigy.
Best diffuser i've ever tried but .......
HEAVY!!! I use it on my Canon 600's and if angle the head up, the weight is too much and it slams down to 90 degree again.
It is huge.
The fancy connection system they invented for attaching it to your flash isn't very good. Velcro straps and tiny screw tighteners still doesnt secure it very well. Would easily fall off if carrying upside down or the slightest "bump".
Most likely going to return mine before the 30 days return policy is up.

Ouch! You may want to contact Graslon about this before returning it.

try a wide rubberband around your flashhead where the diffuser slides on and then slide the diffuser over it and tighten the velcro nicely. should hold better

What I meant was it was the best ""diffuser" i've tried. I've tried Wong, eBay Chinese cheapo's, Sto-fen, LumiQuest...etc and the Prodigy gave the softest, nicest light. I didnt mean it was the best in every way.
When it comes to diffusing & softening it was the best.
When it comes to size, weight and attaching to flash head, it was not the best.

Thanks for the tip! I will try it but still leaning toward returning. Even if I do secure it better to the flash, the size and weight of it, is a returning factor.

Graslon does make a smaller verion which I might exchange the Prodigy for, the Insight, since they do a great job with light

I would be very interested to know if the insight does a good job while not being this heavy itself.

If you want to get specific about my use of the word "best" then lets get specific about the use of your word "some" Should be "sum". Thank you!

ok as to this device and others. it is still a lens type of device and it is directional. the smaller you make it will concentrate the light. especially with all the light tuning stuff thats built in behind the final "dome". the "fong" device (much less directional) which is the bane of some (not sum ) and works quite well for others actually at varying distances gives the closest lighting to a more diffused "bare bulb" then any of the others. they all have their usage and work well when the user knows where and when to use them.

I just wrote Graslon and he claims that his diffuser is designed to be used pointed directly at the subject. Actually it seems to work quite well that way. No, it isn't the equal of a 24X24 softbox but for certain situations I think it is a good solution. I bought one and immediately sold my Gary Fong as I think the Graslon works better as a small diffuser.
