Today I sat in on a Burok meeting. A local mining company was in attendance to see what the community challenges and needs were. This man is the Buroq Chief and speaks for the community. If they have issues that go above the Buroq he would be the one to take it to the next level, the Barungay Captains. To better understand the community structure, in the USA a Barungay would be like a Home Owners Association, only much bigger, with thousands of members. A Burok is a smaller subdivision of that.
This Burok is in need of a water solution, their well is far away at the bottom of a steep hill. It makes daily life very difficult. Meetings like these allow mine employees to establish what the community feels about their project, and how they can help grow the relationship.
