August is not really the best time to be wandering south on US 163 between Utah and Arizona. The light is intense, harsh, and the heat produces haze making crystal clear shots impossible. Still it is a fascinating and the harsh light is part of what makes it so amazing. This track off into vastness caught my eye.

I appreciate the positive comments and the useful critique. When I look at it here compared to a 16x24 print I can see the point about not enough contrast. Greg, if it doesn't "feel hot enough" then I've obviously failed as it was 102F at the time

Part of the problem with August sun is that other than very early or late, shadow has been annihilated. I'm going to go back an work on it and see if I can bring what dark there is up a big more.

I also really like this, Robert.
And I agree about the contrast thing, and understand the desert summer mid-day light problems.
Although the comp is excellent here, I wonder if a bottom crop might emphasize the clouds a bit more. To me, they are the main subject of this fine image.

Charlie,

This is one of those rare shots that I never considered cropping, but interesting idea. It was of course the road (well, and the butte and the sky and the . . .) that pulled me into the shot. I'm going back to it and playing with contrast and even cropping. Always good to have other people's eyes on one's work.

Robert, my first impression was, and is, heat...

there are no cool, black shadows to add contrast, the sun is high.

very nice.
