p.1 #1 · 7D will focus at F8 with the Tamron-F 1.4X TC

This TC will autofocus using the 100-400 L on a 7D.
Note: This was at the 400mm setting on the zoom.

I was at the Rio Grande Nature center on saturday. A friend with a 7D used the Tamron-F TC on his 7D with the 100-400L. The autofocus was usable and his images look sharp on the dispaly.

Yeah any non reporting or a reporting TC with the extra pins taped will work.
I use my 7D with a100-400 and TC sometimes.
However the are issues. I find the middle point does not want to know at all , so if I use zone AF in the centre zone I have to be aware of the missing middle one.

Also it can get a bit hunty at times.

The Tamron-F AF 1.4x teleconverter (non-reporting) does not require any taping of pins.

The issue is not that it cant do it, it cant do it reliably under enough conditions that canon can sell/enable it as a feature.

What about with the Kenko Pro 300 DGX, which is found to work on 1DX/5D III + 100-400L?

I've used the Kenko taped somewhat successfully with my 40D and 100-400L
As said previously, it can become hunty, and depends what you are trying to do.

I've gotten my 7D/100-400/Tamron combo to AF in One Shot, as long as I don't use the center point. Even in very poor light, I can get focus lock.

I don't think it's a workable combo in AI Servo, even in bright light. It too often ends up hunting, and very slow hunting at that.
