Here's a few favs from my last Vietnamese/Filipino wedding in SF. It was a 15hr wedding and I was running on pure adrenaline halfway through the day. More on the BLOG. Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking!

You must seriously search out light that would frustrate most photographers.... and somehow make dark/complex light look good.

7 is my favorite out of the set.
8 I just do not find quite as engaging as the rest (a high bar).

Joe, I don't really seek it out. I just try to make the best of the situation. We don't aways get the light we want. You either make your own light or work with what nature gives you.

Ari, I think you are selling yourself short there. Complex light use is your greatest skill.

In 1 and 3 I am sure there are spots that would have lit everyone equally, and i would bet 95/100 photographers would have used them.

In 2 and 6, you could have easily raised the iso and dropped the flash level, you made that choice. You made the complicated light.

as has been said “If you want to make something interesting, only light part of it”. IMO, that is you in a nutshell.

Thanks Joe. You're right. There were spots at this location where I could have lit everyone equally. And I actually did do that:

However, as you can see this shot and light is very boring. Although it does look pretty it's one of those "must have" shots. But why stop there? I always try to push what I can do a location. This was at the Palace of Fine Arts in SF. If you've shot that before, you know that tons of photogs shoot here every weekend. So I really wanted to do something that probabbly have not been done before. I was very limited with what I could do because of the traffic there and the time of day they chose to take portraits.

exactly my point.

It may not be my style/preference at all, but those choices are ones that would NEVER cross my mind.... and you make them work.

Alex, I did have both. And yes, they were very very helpful. Worth every penny.

My 2nd was keeping them occupy while the assistant was with me. Neither of them can drive stick.
