Curious as to what you guys think is Nikon's closest body to the 7d. I know Nikon has nothing in a crop format with 18mp, which is fine. I don't currently have a D7000, and when I did it was never an issue personally, but some say that you'll probably hit it's limits often. You might look at a D300 or the mythical D400 if it is ever announced. Build quality will be higher than a 7D and the D300 will do 8FPS with the grip in 12 bit mode (not sure about 14 bit). If you don't plan on using teleconverters and can shoot peak action these become much less of an issue. This was shot with a D7000 and 70-200VRII. (my apologies for the obtrusive watermark!) With a 1.4 teleconverter in place the D700 and D3s i've used the AF reacts and slows a little bit, but still function quite well. With the D7000 it seems to becomes lethargic, for lack of a better term. It just doesn't react or track as well as the D700 and D3s. The D7000 may act quite differently on a 400 2.8 with twice as much light entering the camera. I have never used a 400 so can't comment on it's behavior with teleconverters. I'm really looking frame rate, build quality and higher ISO quality. The D300s is the closest thing to the Canon 7D in body style/build, AF, and speed (7fps, 8 with grip). The only 2 things the D300s needs to keep up with the 7D is higher MP and better video. Other then that the D300s is a great camera. Wish I never sold my 7D. It's a great body and with the new 2.0.0 update it's even better. Aug 17, 2012 at 02:17 PM
