Keen shots - have to say all I know about Irkutsk is that it was an important stop over to Japan playing Risk.

These were recent slide scans from pics taken about one year before the collapse of the USSR.
I took a 6-week tour through several parts of the Soviet Union. Back then, traveling on my own would have been very difficult- and being American- even more difficult.

Glad you like these, Mia.
It probably could have been 1960- or even 2012. A regular visitor to Russia said about the only noticeable changes are in the big cities, i.e. Moscow, St Petersburg.
I suspect the rest of Russia is stuck in the 20th century- or earlier.
