p.1 #1 · Older Lenses and D800E

Hey All,
I was wondering if anyone had used an older, manual focusing lens like the Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 with Nikon D800/E?
Or, the mighty Nikkor 135mm f/2.0 DC lens, also with D800/E cameras
Any good results? Disappointments?

I use a 50mm f1.2 with my 800E, works fine and is really sharp from f2 on.

I am very pleased with my 30 year old 28mm f3.5 AIS on my D800.
I had thought about the new 28mm f1.8, but I use the lens for landscapes stopped down and I just don’t see that it is worth it for me to update. The old 28mm f3.5 AIS produces the best sun stars and is very flare resistant.

I am using a 24mm f:2.8 AIS Manual Focus from 1970 on both my D800 and D800E. It is tack sharp and, after 40 years, one of my favorite lenses.

These are good news. I'm actually thinking about getting the 50mm f/1.2.
I'd appreciate if you rd4tile post a couple of images taken with your 50mm f/1.2 lens and D800 camera.
If you could take them at say 1.2 and 2.8.

Flip the lens around, put a converter on it and you have a great macro lens.

I had occasion to shoot for a week with a friend's D800 and since I practically shoot ONLY with MF Nikkor glass, that is what I did when I had that camera. I mounted eight different lenses and none of them disappointed me or embarrassed the D800... 28 f/2 AI-s, 50 f/1.2 AI-s, 55 f/1.2 S-C AI'd, 85 f/1.4 AI-s, 135 f/2 AI-s, 180 f/2.8 AI-s, 300 f/4.5 AI-s ED-IF and 400 f/5.6 AI-s ED-IF. I won't be rushing out to buy one for myself, in part because the D700 is such a wonderful camera that handles these old Nikkor lenses so well. But should I reach a time when I feel a need to upgrade I'd have no reluctance to use my existing kit of MF Nikkors with the D800. And there are quite a number of folks posting on the Manual Focus Nikon Glass thread who are using a variety of these lenses and producing some outstanding work. You might want to check out the last few hundred pages of that thread...
