p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · New Samyang 14mm, 24mm, 35mm DSLR Cine Lenses!

Samyang announced cine lenses with focal length of 14mm, 24mm and 35mm will be available over the coming months.
"Samyang Optics is delighted to announce three new additions to the popular Samyang family, all of which are dedicated for cine purposes. Lenses with focal length of 14mm, 24mm and 35mm to be available over the coming months.

These lenses are based on the existing types dedicated for digital photography. The new VDSLR lenses differ with the inclusion of follow-focus gearing on focus and decoupled aperture. Such alterations allow the user to smoothly and quietly change focus and aperture / depth of field whist filming. Another feature is the visibility of the aperture and focus scale on the side of the lens.

Initially available in Canon and Nikon mounts. Due for release August / September 2012. Expected street prices will be:
14mm T3.1 ED AS UMC - Euros 409.99, 24mm T1.5 ED AS UMC - Euros 649.99, 35mm T1.5 ED AS UMC - Euros 519.99"

i don't think majority of folk here will even care about this release. However, for video shooter like me, this is a very welcome news. Very reasonable price with high quality build. Already bought the 8mm cine lens.

I have some doubts regarding the build quality. On the Samyang 85mm/1.4 a stuck iris is kind of common. On the 14mm/2.8 it is commont that the focus scale is not adjusted. Stuck iris or other mechanical problems occur sometimes (not often).

But I admit, the price is very low and the optical quality is on some of the lenses high or very high. Some few lenses have a bad wooly bokeh.

I have collectet some links to common lens issues. On some of the links you could see this wooly bokeh. Probably it is good to test faster Samyang lenses bokeh.

ZoneV,

i'm not talking about the old 14/85 lens. I'm talking about the new cine lens and also the 35mm version.

Bubble, for me they look very simillar to the "old" versions, exept they have these gearing rings and the iris without the f-stops (probably only without that ball that "make" the clicks.
For me it seems like they have not completly redesignd the mechanics.

Not yet. Do you think they have a better build quality? From what I read the mechanics seems not better than with the 85 and 14.
