p.1 #1 · Retaining sharpness after correcting distortion

What's the best way to maintain sharpness after correcting distortion? I notice my subject's eyes are less sharp after a small dose of correction. Obviously the pixels are getting shifted around, but I was wondering maybe there was a way to freeze a part of the image such as with the liquify tool. I would freeze just the person's eyes / face.

Duplicate layer ... apply correction ... mask ... paint in/out areas of correction desired/not desired to let underlayer show through.

What software are you using for this? Canon Digital Lens Optimizer in DPP? Photoshop? PTGui?

What distortion correction? Perspective? Lens pincushion / barrel?

Are you working with Raws? Raws converted to 16 TIFFs?

If it is direct in the converter software (ACR?) then there might be distortion correction before the intake sharpening phase.

Adobe photoshop cs6 adaptive wide angle and LR4 perspective (vertical correction) both show some blurring. They are raw files.
