The crab is (Blepharipoda occidentalis) aka Mole Crab. It's another menu item in the incredibly varied gull diet.

Gotta love the neutral grays and excellent whites on these and the refreshing blues of the water. Great shot of the shoreline life of a gull and the demise of a crabby mole Sharp and accurate!

Thanks to all for the comments...always much appreciated.

Karl, I'm impressed with your eye for the technicals. Gotta give an assist here to a new NEC display; it's making exposure & color decisions a lot easier for me.

Looks like that gull has experience in mole crab dissection. Nice set Gordon.

Gordon---

Not only am I impressed by your images, but I am also impressed that you give the genus and species of a relatively rare sand crab that 99.99% of the people here have never seen or heard of.

Thanks very much for sharing these.

John--

Natural history is my passion...Iíve spent a lifetime studying it. Itís one thing I can bring to the table here at FM, so itís good to know that there are others who enjoy a little information with their photography. The feedback is very much appreciated.
