No seatbelt? , at least she isn't texting!

Nice photo. Like the lighting. I would tilt the Rearview mirror, or remove it. Other than that picky thing, nice!

Very nice indeed.

I would love to know the setup or a picture of the positioning of the lights/exif for this shot. I'd try the same, but somehow I doubt a Dodge mini-van would yield the same result.

UPDATE: I see you shot that with a Nikon D800 @ 24mm f/8 and 1/10 on the shutter. No doubt that wasn't hand-held, and she did an excellent job of remaining still. VERY NICELY DONE.

Excellent!
Dave

. No problem...

FYI - it WAS handheld. I shot through the sunroof and rested the camera on the car the best I could. I needed a long exposure so the instrument panel would show up.

The real secret here to freezing the action was the stopping power of flash. While the shutter speed was relatively slow, it was near total darkness in the car so the flash froze her in place when it fired. I know flash durations are pretty quick so this really did the trick...

Russ -- why is it when I look at this capture I see the possibility of a third light -- behind the subject outside the car shooting downward at around a 45?

The shadows of her arm, steering wheel, etc.. don't seem to be consistent for a two light setup as you have described ... am I misinterpreting something?

I am not sure what you're referring to... there is a speed light outside the drivers side window and behind her (camera left if you will). That is what is lighting her arm and also lighting some of the car interior (steering wheel, dash, etc). The other flash was bounced off of a 3x4 reflector that is propped up on the hood of the car (right front corner of the car). That light is coming through the windshield and lighting her face. Only 2 lights used...no on camera flash was used...
