p.1 #1 · Best backlit night shot!

Hey guys! Just picked up an off camera flash system finally!!! Very excited about it. I would love to see some of your off camera night shots for some great inspiration I know the first thing that comes to mind is hoffers epic umbrella and rain shot.

Thanks!

About time. What trigger system did you go with?

Also, off camera lighting is useful for more than just backlit night shots A must for receptions as well (though I'm sure you are aware of that).

This was always my favorite backlit shot, but techically it was not at night. It doesn't have to be completely dark to take advantage of OCF.

I'm sorry, let me clarify. We already had the flash, I am in my first couple of months wedding shooting, so I am still trying to figure out what works for me. We picked up a impact? Tool to allow us to use the flash off the camera. Still won't work lighting receptions though.

I was invited to shoot a friend's wedding as a second shooter with the freedom to do whatever I want. Wedding receptions are my thing as opposed to formal bride and groom portraits. Would I do this again? Probably not... the flare from the speedlight was a bit excessive and cliche. I would probably restrict it to doing one shot with the flare in the background.

You are right, the first thing that comes to mind it the famous Hoffer umbrella shot, and it is great inspiration. I don't have a wedding image to share that demonstrates this at the moment, but this shot of mine came to mind.

Here's one from last weekend's wedding. Edited to remove unwanted reflections. My photohop skills are not great, but it's better than it was.

I like this one.

Has a very subdued feeling, and uses the back lighting to really bring out the couple.

**the only small this is the reflection of the person and the chairs on the right side of the pool

Congratulations Hoffer, you've created the Jump Shot for 2012. And as I'm sure you know, I mean this in the most flattering of ways.
