Great stuff Ultrapix. Inspiring to see all these being shot with this little gem. Liking the B&W street work too, nice. Good advice about street shooting, thx.

Ok so I also got one.
It replaces my Canon S95. The size is where the comparison ends for me.
It's not my 5DII with zeiss glass, but the IQ is great for such a small camera.
Another thing I notice is how responsive it feels. I've never seen a compact focus this fast (in good light) and there's virtually no shutter lag.

I'm not used to looking at camera-produced jpegs though. Hopefully the Lightroom RAW support is around the corner.

One of the first shots after leaving the camera store:

Cool composition and content. Funny you got the "optic sale" just after buying your camera...

Me too, but I don't know how much happy I'll be to let away all those tasty features only available in jpg:

-Lens correction
-art filters
-DR & HDR
-etc...

Haha, najibs, I like the one of the very sad looking pylon. So where do you see this fitting in with your X1 and other gear?

Tough to say, Ron. I'm more of a gear head than a photog

It's tough to compare to the X1 so far because I haven't seen what the Raws can do. I do feel the lack of DOF wide open versus the X1 wide open right away. It tough tgehrig bokeh on the RX100 unless you're Really close to something. It's much easier with the X1 even with the slower lens. At larger apertures both cameras image quality has that special 3d pop to it. Jpegs are better processed on the Rx100 straight out of cam. I like the simplicity

Thanks for the summary Najibs! I wish this camera was out a year ago - would have bought it instead of the Oly XZ-1 for the GF - a camera I thought would be good, but IMO the lens is miserable at wider apertures. Should have looked at the various review images more carefully. But problem is the RX100 looks so good, I'd have to buy two so that I at least get to use it.

Re Sonnar look: I definitely get the feel there is some under corrected SA at the longer end of the zoom range at near subject distances and wide open. Interesting point though about shooting at or near wide open. Kind of my feeling with Leica lenses as well - either wide open or well stopped down.

Ultra: really, really love the image of the amazing clouds over the building along the canal!

Thank you!
Yes, it was a magic moment. I visit that place every year, and I have never found such a scenario before.
BTW, the on camera HDR made a great job here, avoiding highlights clipping.

I'm not really interested in the gimmicks that in-camera jpegs offer. RAW is way more flexible and that's what I always want.

Jochen, nice shot! Congrats on a gem of a cam
Najibs, nice stuff!
David, really nice evening shot!
Ron, I would really think your GF would enjoy the RX100, and maybe a spare as a backup

Thanks Charles, too much honor told from a photographer like you

BTW, congrats to everyone in this thread; this little camera seems very inspiring, and never a P&S thread showed such high IQ, I guess.

Thanks Charles, for the encouragement. It's a strategy I've had to employ for other electronic goodies and likely would be a very successful approach. I've already suggested the camera to her several times, and I'm tempted, but also a bit tapped out after a recent reinvestment/upgrade to the Canon portion of my photo kit... Your images from the RX100 have certainly maintained the high standard you've set in the Leica thread! Can't wait for this camera to near end-of-life in it's product cycle and hopefully find it at a lower price. I've really enjoyed everyone's images from it in this thread and look forward to seeing more!

Beleive it or not, that top shot of the truck in the grass was actually done using the 'clear zoom' feature, in the camera, which goes beyond the optical zoom.

Great job! I unlocked the clear zoom feature and turned off the digital zoom feature in my RX100, and waiting to use it. Looks like clear zoom makes it 7X zoom at 20PM, and over 10X zoom at 10MP, and I think 14X zoom at 5MP. Of course some people will say that one can simply crop in pp, but apparently clear zoom is something else. I am waiting for an opportunity to try it. I would appreciate more example with use of Optical Clear Zoom
