p.1 #1 · Is it 1120 or 1456?

Using an 800 on a 1DIV with a 1.4X Extender the EXIF reports Focal Length as 1120mm.
Is that correct?
If you figure the 800 and the 1.3 Crop of the body and the 1.4X extender it's 1456mm.
Is this correct?

Thanks

Rod

the focal length doesn't change just because it is on the crop body. So the answer is 1120

I would say that the focal length is 1120mm (1.4X800mm), but the field of view is equivalent to 1456mm (1.3X1120) due to your cropping out a section of the image.

An alternative way to think about it - if you take a photo with a 50mm lens and then crop it in photoshop, you still used a 50mm lens, even if the final image has an equivalent field of view to a 100mm lens.

As far as I've ever seen the exif always reports the TRUE focal length rather than the 35mm equivalent.

In the same way my 7D reports the long end of my 100-400 as 400 rather than 640 (it's not a 640mm lens)

It's the exif data from the lens. Focal length is not a combination of exif data from lens and body together. Lens is this case is of course lens and tc together

And nice exposure. Did you need any compensation?

I guess you're the expert on everything, I'm not that's why I asked the question.
