p.1 #1 · Canon Camera days at Rocky Mountain Nat. Park

Anyone partaken in these classes at RMNP or the other national parks. Only a few left this week, wanted to see if it was worth the drive. Hoping to fondle a 1DX with a 200-400/1.4x

Didn't know if it was heavy on gear promotion or lessons on shooting nature or scenics.

Trying to figure out if the morning or afternoon classes would be better. 8:45 is pretty late for 'morning' but better light than the afternoon. Though the afternoon can get some clouds for something besides just clear blue (and hot and dry) skys.

I hate they don't take reservations. Hate to drive 90 minutes each way for not much time with the gear.

Thanks

When are these classes you speak of from Canon? I'm going to be at RMNP on Saturday.

Heck, I'm not telling you guys, you'll just make it more crowded!

I was hoping to hear from someone who has attended. Find it hard to believe that no one from here has. If no one from here has, that makes me leary of going...

I attended one a couple years ago in Yellowstone... The instructors were well versed, friendly, & cooperative... The equipment they shared was basically anything / everything Canon made... Good luck

Didn't you just have a big court case about 'gear' fondling?

I thought Canada was one of our National Parks?

That's what she said! Here, RMNP is Riding Mountain National Park, hence my initial excitement...

What sort of usage can get with the gear. They seem to be short (1/2 day) so I assume you shot from the meeting place? I am interested because they have some in Yosemite which is a couple of hours away for me.

Thanks,

jerry

Looks like I'll play hookey from work this afternoon and head up and try the afternoon one. We'll see how it goes.

Waiting to start. They have a 500/5.6 for people to Hubble with.

I attended a "Canon Days" event in Honolulu several times. Basically a sales and PR device but if you're a fanboy you can molest normally untouchable gear, be baptized into the fold and even have a tech check out your gear. I got a tech to hook my camera up to his laptop and got the shutter cycle readout.

Yes, that would be a good time not to go if the attendance is higher.

Good class. Had Larson as my teacher. Didn't push gear at all. Basic primer on depth of field and shutter speed-blurring of a nice little water fall.

Asked for a 1DX with a 200-400, got a 7d with 100-400. Hated the lens so bad , what the he'll is up with that zoom- push pull twist tight loose? The trip was worth it to know I don't want the current 100-400L lens. Happy with the 7d to augment my 5dii for sports. I shot it with my own 70-200/2.8.

Five peoPle in my group. Nice pleasant peoPle with no attention hogs or sponges.

Thanks Canon and Larson!

I think there is a lot to learn left if you "hate" the 100-400 just because of the push-pull system. BTW, did you ever use a full MF lens?.....I guess not.
