I would like to introduce myself. I am ashamed to say this, but I noticed from my profile that I have been lurking on this site for 6 years. I have been enjoying and learning a lot from all of you without contributing anything. So, Iím going to try to contribute something weekly. I am not a pro photog; I am an overworked high school science teacher.

This 1st one was an award winner at a local county fair.

John, thank you very much.

Jim, it was the sky that we pulled off the road to shoot. The cattle kindly wandered by as we watched the storm build.

Tom, you are right about the fence. Maybe I will do that.

Welcome, Joe.
A worthy photograph- for sure. With excellent processing to boot.
And that sky is scrumptious!
I really like the image.
Tom's idea sounds good to me also.
I'm wondering if you'd walked to the fence and shot OVER it, how much better it might be. Or not . The point being whenever you have anything as good as that sky, take a boatload of pics from all over the place, and make the final decision at home. Perhaps a good thought for the future?

Welcome!
Congratulations!
Well-deserved.
Curious. How large was the print? I can imagine this working well at any size, but super as a large print.

There be rain in that picture, too. Wonderful image, Joe, as has already been said.

Thanks for the pointers, Charlie. It can be challenging to get good clouds over good subjects. I always seem to have one without the other.

Thanks, Scott. It is a very sharp print -- I used Canon 5dII on a tripod. I printed 15 inches wide for the county fair, and it looked great.

Amazing how the tonality is controlled in the image.

Lovely image, surely deserving to be a prize winner

Joe

I like it and don't have a thing against the fence - if I remember all the movies about range wars they are a fact of life. If I have a "beef" it's with the rear end of the cow on the right which can either be cropped or cloned out.

A slightly tighter crop would get rid of both the fence and the cow and imo would make the sky even more powerful and awe inspiring.

Keep them coming.

Thank you Guari, Ed, Cheryl, and Peter for your kind comments.

Peter, thanks for your suggestions. You make good points that I will think consider. When one of the objects in a repeating sequence is partially cut off at the edge of the frame, it tends to convey that the sequence continues beyond the frame. Thatís why I left it there. However, it is a cowís butt Ė maybe not such a good thing to leave in.
