p.1 #1 · 1000x CF cards

Will it improve buffer and cycling on MkIV or only on 5dIII?

Here's a test on 7d with firmware upgrade to 2:

1000x lexar 32gb 34 burst cleared in 7 seconds

533x adata 32gb 28 burst cleared in 18 seconds

266x patriot 16gb 26 burst cleared in 24 seconds

So the card does matter in burst length and clear speed.

Both of these are significant in shooting wildlife or sports, with the clear speed mattering more to me, because after your buffer is full, you are paralysed to a slow speed while you miss shots.

As well the conclusion is that you can't compare numbers posted here because differing settings (iso, shutter speed, will effect the results - they need to be standardized).

[all above at M, 1/2000, iso 100, f4, high burst, auto focus with same lens on same spot with same exposure setting.]

Scott, thanks for those numbers but just to clarify your tests. Is burst the number of shots before the rate noticeably slowed and clear time how long it took for the buffer busy light to go away without taking any more shots?

Yes, but was the buffer clearing slower with pre-2.0 firmware with the same card? I think that's the question.

Sandisk 600x Extreme Pro 90MB/s UDMA 6. 36 shots with the buffer then clearing in 7 seconds on 7D FW 2.0. Indicating no benefit for 1000x UDMA 7 which the 7D does not support.

yes - burst is to noticable slowling. I subtracted the ones taken after slight pause.

yes - the clear is the time until the light went away after slowing without taking any shots

I don't think this test is conclusive because my tests results move around depending on settings. Eg. if you have a different iso setting, different scene.... you get different results. However, it does hint that your udma 6 card is as fast.

So the anser is likely that 1000x udma7 does improve, over slower cards, but not likely over fastest udma6 cards.

I have the 5diii and 7d and bought 2 lexar 1000's because they were fastest for 5diii, so no regrets for me. As compared to my old adata's they clear faster.

Keep changing your setting to surpass my results. ;-)
