p.1 #1 · SSD intel on my Mac

Hi all,

I am cloning just now my Mac OS to my new SSD Intel 520 120GB and in the WD velociraptor (where I had the OS) I will put my Indesign files to do my wedding work.

Should I expect a huge improvement in speed and efficiency when doing my wedding work

P.D: the word "wedding" makes my question being in the right section

Thanks

Jaime

Before you do this, make sure you have all your product codes available!
Microsoft, PhotoMechanic and Nik Software suites will think this is a new install.

I put all my product codes into a PDF doc for easy retrieval.

Product codes are a must, but should not be needed for most software. Microsoft require it, and one or two others.

But, on the question of speed/performance, yes. I saw a great improvement (close to 50% faster) when I went from a 500gb HD, to a 256gb Crucial SSD.

I speak from experience regarding the Microsoft, PhotoMechanic and Nik plugins.
Everything else I have didn't need a product code.

Keychain access, (Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access) you can keep everything in secure notes, like product keys. It's awesome.

The SSD though, will rock your world. I put a 120GB in my 2009 MBP instead of buying a new machine, and am very happy with my purchase.

Thanks all for your answers,

Yeah, a few codes had to be entered again but that was the only "problem" at the moment.

I noticed the Mac is faster in many duties such as creating PDF from indesign, Photoshop aswell ...

So basically my MacPro 1.1 with 13GB of RAM, gt8800 graphic card and now this beast SSD which is a huge improvement so no need to think about the new Macpro (a lot of money) at all as for the work I do the ssd is just incredible better.

P.S. Starting the mac from SSD was 59 secs the same as from the WD velociraptor and 1ī 30 sec from an 7200 HDD so the same speed the SSD and the velociraptor thatīs the only thing I havent notice an improvement at all but who cares as while the Mac starts up I get the studio ready to go.

Thanks

Jaime
