Took this Pika image this morning as the sun was coming up over a nearby ridge. The critter did me the favor of sitting out on a rock where the sun could hit it from behind (relative to me) but the BG was still mostly in shade. Hand held with a 7D & 400 f5.6. ISO 400, 1/1600, f 5.6 at 11.5 metres. A bit of a crop to eliminate a hot spot.

Ken- I think the image is spectacular!
But I also see the "muddle."
In fact, although I almost always have muddling in my slide scans, I'm surprised at how many posted digital shots have the same problem. 80% of the time that I edit muddled shots by applying "auto color," the muddling is removed.
I did that with your image: 100% auto color. And also 100% sharpness. Both are sliders, so it's a subjective thing.
