I found out that the company I got my D800 through has had enough issues with returns r/t D800 focus problems to warrant significant conference discussion. They apparently talked with a Nikon rep as recently as today who is aware of the issues and has some lists (like serial ranges, etc...though I didn't get any specifics) of the D800s that are not functioning properly, although they have not yet disclosed that list to the company. This tells me Nikon is very aware and apparently at least trying to work out the issues with some of the resellers (who are almost certainly losing a bit of money because of all these returns).

Problem is, there's no ETA on a long-term resolution of the Nikon AF Debacle...

6 months - for D800s to get in stock
6 months - for AF issue to get resolved

So it looks like I will be a buyer in February of 2013. Maybe I should've kept my D700...

You guys talk about the D800s but as far as I know is that camera not on the market and is there no talk about a "s" release.
Did I miss something?

They are using "D800s" as the plural of "D800."

Didn't Canon once have a major problem with their Mark 1Ds--III or something? Pissed everybody off; apparently never did get it working right. Hopefully Nikon didn't create something like that.

1d mark III, problem was mostly resolved after a long time of denial and many fixes.

so in this case it could be D800's as there is a possibility of misreading otherwise

No, there is a D800 "s" model. On the "s", the right bank AF is out of alignment, but the left bank is tack sharp. Perhaps you didn't know, and ordered the base model? The one with the left bank out of alignment?

Not to worry, if you did. Just send it in to Nikon, and they can fix if up for you ... they can reverse the alignment.

Or, if you'd like, they can set it up so the center bank back focuses, while the right and left banks front focus. It's great that Nikon can customize the D800 to be just the way you like it.
