Monito and MVers - can you guys just take this to PM or something? Please stop.
Thank you Will for getting this back on topic. I'll call CPS Monday for an update on my Camera, when I called them Friday the Tech was checking it out. Hopefully I'll have some "official" news.

Guess I do have the dreaded error 80 But what is weird is it's not in the log from yesterday's lockup, just last weekend.
I'm a firmware engineer who normally designs-in an error logging mechanism like what the 1DX has...if the hardware or software goes off into weeds like your 1DX did (hangs) then that means the software generally wouldn't have a chance to log the condition. It's actually good news that you found an error 80 entry - that will be much easier for Canon to troubleshoot than a hang condition, which is both hard to replicate and leaves behind no clues.

I hear you, and understand. The error 02 is apparently a communication error with the memory card. That's a separate issue I remember happening where I had filled the 32GB main card with raw and a 16GB card in the 2nd slot with JPG, so I went to a fresh pair of cards and the camera said that error, but turning the camera off and back on fixed it.
I'd be annoyed by that. A lot of camera and a lot of money, but hopefully Canon will sort these issues out soon. Nikon, I think, have managed to resolve the D4 locking up problems.
Well over the weekend I had a strange thing happen to mine. It didn’t lockup, totally. I was shooting a play at a local high school. I was shooting in silent mode, mode 2. I was using my 70-200 2.8 IS pretty much wide open with ISO 3200. Depending on the lighting for the scene, I was getting around 160-1000’s for shutter speed. Well around 150 shots in, I push the shutter button. I hear the shutter open, let up on the button and I hear nothing. No mirror return slap. I’m like wft. After pulling the camera away from my face, I’m looking at it, rotating it around looking at it. Of course it totally dark in the auditorium and I can’t see a thing. After about 10 sec, I hear the mirror return and the red light lights up to indicate it’s writing to the card. LCD lights up with a white blowin out picture. With the scene I was shooting there is no way it could have metered for a 10 sec. exposure. So I’m not sure what happened but it only happened once. I didn’t not cycle power on/off or anything. I just kept right on shooting the rest of the night without any problems at all. I didn’t think to check the log until I read this thread. I’ll do that when I get home tonight.
Yes my 1Dx has also got the err 80! will call CPS tomorrow had 2 occurrences, one I can remember, here are the details. Using custom settings, spot focus linked to AF point, 35L mostly being used @ 1.4. Serial Number starts with 05
I'll try a test on the other link that was posted to see if I can replicate the issue.
Did the camera lock up for a long time? or did a power off/on work?
I've got a group on FB 'canon 1dx' and a member from taiwan said the err80 issue has been noteda long time ago, lots of people have had lockups. He suggested that a few people had issues when both card slots were being used.
Were you using both slots?

Also error 80 this evening.
1Dx with 600 II + 1.4 ext III + Lexar CF 1000x 16GB
On the D4/D800 it was a software bug. The cameras would lockup when you had the histogram setting enabled in the playback options. If you disabled it from the playback menu the camera had no issues. Only problem with that was you could not see your histogram during image review. Nikon released a firmware update that resolved that issue. Hope is the same with these 1DXs and that it's not defective hardware.

CPS has emailed me an overnight shipping label for my camera but I'm not going to send it in. I need it for a few shoots this week, and this weekend.

, Nikon wont even send out a prepaid ground shipping for a warrantied repair of a known factory defect yet Canon sends out overnight labels on their dime. I love Canon's service.
If this issue seems as prevalent as is being reported here, and I don't doubt anyone who is reporting it, then there must be a lot of ticked off photogs at the Olympics...

I'm guessing so. I think it's cameras that start with serial 052, which mine is. Perhaps they are having those guys try out a new firmware as we speak?
