I searched this forum and couldn't find what I was looking for.....

And what I'm looking for is help finding a very compact, lightweight tripod with an integrated ball head for use with one of the really small but highly capable cameras currently available, such as the Sony NEX cameras or the Fuji X100 or the new Sony RX100

For those moments when you find yourself without your full kit and stumble upon a first rate photo opportunity in low light conditions and would like a little extra stabilization

Something sturdier than the Tamrac Zipshot but still almost that easy to bring along on a casual hike

Would prefer a tripod that allows me to at least see through the camera without laying on my belly, kneeling on one knee would work

And finally, less than $75

Does it exist?

No.

Sorry. My choice for ultra portable support is a Leica table tripod. I don't see the point in carrying useless tripod-shaped objects, which is largely what you're describing.

Bob, I bought a Cullmann Nanomax 220 for just that use. Very light, quite stealthy, and yet a "real" tripod. Not the best, of course, but very helpful indeed nonetheless. No idea if the price in your area fits your target, but, here, it does. Hope this helps.

This is what I use with my Fuji X100 (and Panasonic LX-3, before that):

It doesn't have a ballhead, but it's so easy to position, I never found myself wanting to use one.

If you're in the middle of a prairie, you won't have many options other than to get on your belly, but it's flexible legs can securely hold a small camera around almost anything that's less than a few inches in diameter.

Does anybody have experience with the Sony lighweight, inexpensive tripod?
Looks pretty good on paper

Not sure it is tall enough for your needs though.

I had one of the Manfrotto digi range for a while. It was an ok tripod without the centre column extended but the integrated ball head was just rubbish. I know they used to make one without an integrated head - one of those with a small proper ballhead would be good.

^ +1. I use a NEX-7 with a regular travel tripod and a good ballhead. Don't cheap out on support it will last way longer than your next three or four cameras.
