p.1 #1 · If you have to start all over again

For any reason, if you need to start all over again with “no limit” on budget but you has to choose only one body and one lens then what it will be?
One of my friends asked this question. I said it is like picking my favorite child.

It seems that I cannot decide between 24-105 which I use all time and nifty fifty 50 mm 1.8 is my sharpest lens but less frequently used due to lack of zoom option since I have zoon using my feet.

If I could only have one, it would probably be something like the 7d (or whatever current crop top of the line was) and some sort of superzoom. Boring, but I use too much of the range to give it up.

1Dx and a 600II, of course if I had lots of money I wouldn't have to shoot weddings anymore and I could just travel the world and take pictures of exotic birds and lions

But if you have "no limit" on your budget why can you only buy one lens?

If I am forced to have only one lens it will be the 24TSEII since that is what I use the most. Which of course dictates a Canon body so as much as I would love a D800 I would go with a 5DIII.

Now, if you ease up on the one lens restriction I'd add a 24-70 to my bag as a second lens

The premise is limited and the choice obvious.

If you have no limit on the budget but can get only one body, you obviously get the flagship Canon DSLR, the 1D X.

If you have no limit on budget but can get only one lens, then obviously get the widest range of focal lengths. That would be the 28-300 mm L. Even though it is on the slow side (small aperture) that is compensated for by the high ISO capability of the 1D X. There are sharper lenses but get capability before refinement.

Yawn.

One lens. You might as well get a P & S camera then. No use putting up with the weight and bulk of a DSLR if you are going to hinder the body with a single lens.

Not too many P&S with F1.2 or 1.4 and bokeh to die for. However, who said you can't buy another dozen lenses at a later date...

......Possibly Nikon D800 or D4 with a Leica 50mm f/0.95 lens. That would be a nice combo for me.
