i recently purchased a colorchecker passport and the software to use in LR4 and i probably missed it in the instructions, but do you...

a) export a crop of the CCP to the program to make a profile AND THEN select one of the patches for white balance...including one of the "creative" white balances

or

b) set a neutral white balance with the WB tool, then crop/export the crop of the CCP to the program, and then white balance again (including the creative WB).

when ive done b, just to see, i noticed my numbers changed...not much, but they did.

however its hard for me to say if it was very much, since im colorblind

so is it A or B or it doesnt really matter too much

Here's what I do:
1. Create a profile
2. Exit and restart LR
3. Apply profile to a sample photo
4. Adjust WB
5. Sync sample photo with the rest of the set for camera calibration and WB

The colour checker passport software will recognise the chart and do its stuff.

And - you should NOT color correct/change the image before you send it to the software to create the profile.

You want it to see exactly what your camera does to the image, not the effects of post processing in Lightroom.

I profiled my camera in 2006 when I was doing a fashion shoot and hard trouble "nailing" some orange plaid pants. Definitely a great tool to help get you to a known, neutral starting point on any camera.
