Looks like most everyone buys on line alot. My question would be will your buying habits change if the feds ever get through a bill to force all online sellers to collect sales tax on online purchases and what would be the affect on sellers like KEH, B&H, and Adaroma. Another potential gift from our Government.
Nah, I still prefer buying online simply because I can find exactly what I'm looking for without sales pressure.

Interesting results so far, but not unexpected to me that 50% buy on line. The convenience, free shipping from many vendors, and lack of sales tax are all appealing.
I am considering my first used purchase of a Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 here on the forum but I'm not sure I can pull the trigger. $900-950 used is better than $1200+ new, but the lack of warranty on a $1000 item is causing me to have second thoughts.

yep, sprung for 70-200 VRII new because of warranty and regret it. I think used was $1900 at time and now I'm seeing $1800. The savings would have put me half way to the 24-70/2.8 used.

No one has answered the question within the question yet about the local dealer being able to discount at all. Nikon prices seem to be the same everywhere so I have to wonder if Nikon lets the local guy offer anything off MAP. Or, maybe the dealers don't want to discount.
I'm going to buy a D7000 body this week and I'm wondering if the local guy can go lower than the $1096 that everyone seems to be offering it for. It would be nice to offset some of the sales tax with a slightly lower price.
Of course the answer is "ask and see", and I will. i'm just asking what you have experienced.
Also, I'm going new on the body because that seems to be where the warranty is most likely to be needed. I'm seeing plenty of 17-55s used and will likely try to get one in good shape. I will probably fill out the kit with the 70-300 VR for now since it is cheap, it will do what I need, and I don't have the coin right now for a 70-200 VR II, used or otherwise.

In short, no, they can't. The price is now the price now, much like Nintendo, Apple, etc.

Thanks KnB, that confirms what I suspected. It sure puts my local guy at a disadvatage since my cost will be 6.5% more to buy from him since he has to charge me tax.

...not that B&H is a bad thing, not at all. Great selection and prices, and the only time I've had to return an item to them they were quick, professional and great to work worth.
