First time covering really fast bikes on the tarmac... C&C welcome.
I originally wanted to attend all three days and things got in the way, so I just showed up on Sunday. First thing was to decide what hardware to bring. Knowing that I was going to hike around the track for the whole day, I opted to take the 400mm F/2.8 a 1.4x teleconverter, the 70-200mm and one body (D3s) and a monopod. I ended up using exclusively the 400mm with or without the TC. There really is no place around the track where you can get decent shots with the 70-200mm without a photog credential.
I did forget a stool to stand on a lot of the fences are just eye level (at least for someone 5'11") and it's almost impossible to shoot over them. Arrrrg!
Morning weather was crapy (rolling fog, wind) and the show started late so a few practices were cancelled. The main event (GP) did start on time tho and by that time the fog had burned off and it was sunny.
These bikes are _fast_ and with a long lens (400mm or 560mm with the TC), if you want to fill the frame, it's really really hard to follow them.
In the end quite a few nice shots, but since the locations were limited, not that much variety.
