South of Fairbanks along the Richardson Highway.
The Tanana (Ta na naw) is the largest glacial River in Alaska. It flows past Fairbanks and joins the Yukon River on its way to the Bering Sea.

The river looks very shallow, almost like those shallows one sees along the coast near Hallo Bay, AK.

Nice shot Charlie. Surely it isn't already autumn there?

Thanks Da and Helen.
Large glacially-fed rivers that don't flow directly to the ocean generally have similar appearances to this. i.e. wide valleys that are mostly silt with some water. During periods of heavy water runoff, the water changes directions and builds up different silt deposits. With 10 or more water courses (as here) the depth of the water is usually shallow. But NEVER walk in river or ocean silt; it can be almost like quicksand. And if you're in a tidal zone and get stuck in silt, a rising tide can drown you. If it happens to moose- it can happen to you.

No- it's not autumn in Alaska . I took this slide image years ago- probably in late September.

That's quite the view Charlie!

You would think that the Moose would know better.
