So is it worth it to trade for the D3?? I have a grip on my 700 so thats not a deal maker. I love the two card slots. Now what other advantages does the d3 have?? Part two: Is the D3s worth $1500 more than the d3 I do a variety of shooting(no sports to speak of). A lot of fpj and some wedding work where the high iso of the D3s might pay off. Why is there such a big difference between the D3 and the D3s. I dont do much video either so thats not something that would sway me toward the D3s. thanks guys. Jul 29, 2012 at 02:11 AM

It lays out from almost every angle what the real difference is. Found it here: http://www.bythom.com/nikond700review.htm Also, the D3S is a newer camera, so it's worth more. For the next few years, it will stay that way, though both of them will drop in price. Oh, it's also about a stop better in noise. The buffer size has increased considerably and the biggest improvement is the sensor, which is about 1-2 stops better than the D3/D700 sensor at high ISO's. The 1-2 stops improvement is subjective among photographers who believe it is barely one stop improvement, while others believe it's a 2 stops improvement. One thing is clear, however, is that the D3s retains clean colors at extreme high ISO's much better than the D3/D700 sensor. Jul 29, 2012 at 02:28 AM

I've owned 'em both too (and still have a D700 BTW) and I'm at a loss as to why anyone would state that without any explanation... maybe he means "better for sneaking into a concert" or "better for people with small hands and little arms"?? The D3s was definitely better (and arguably better than the D4) but not by all that much and when going out I'd more often grab the D800 because I didn't feel like carrying the weight of the D3s on long hikes. All the prices are going to slowly go down so if you don't need it just hold off a bit. If you need it get it and you'll love it. Aug 31, 2012 at 12:59 AM
