They can have the tripod back when I'm done with it. I surely don't need another one, but it would be interesting to see what it's like hands-on.
Don't hold your breath. Your lack of objectivity has already been adequately illustrated in this thread. They'd be NUTS to send you a tripod.

Sirui may very well make reasonably decent products, or not. My goal is to be objective in a review, which I have done in the past, and I'm happy to be proved wrong. In fact, I never said their products were "junk", the OP did, and I neither agreed nor disagreed with his opinion. My issue is with buying any product lacking after-the-sale customer support. Why would I be a less reliable source than the company rep who's suddenly made an appearance here to defend lacking customer service? I'm not selling anything here, but the company rep sure is.
What bothers me are the repeated assertions that Benro = Induro = Gitzo = RRS = Feisol = 'insert your brand here'. Is the world really that simple, where every tripod is exactly the same as every other? I'm quite sure I've helped Feisol, Photoclam, and Sunway sell some products, based on my reviews that they are of reasonably good quality in their price ranges, but never once have I asserted that a Feisol tripod is the same as an RRS, or that a Photoclam ballhead is the same as a Markins. The best product for a particular customer is not necessarily the most expensive, but a good product is one that serves its intended function.

The OP bought the tripod from a US company. He lives in the US. When he had troubles, he didn't contact either the US company he bought it from or the US Sirui site. He instead contacted the defunct ex-Canadian distributor. It's hardly Sirui's fault that the OP can't figure out who to contact.
Then as soon as US Sirui became aware of the OP's issue, they showed up here and tried to help right off the bat.

I have a Sirui N2204 and find it a great unit. Compact, light sturdy and reasonably priced. It performed very well combined with the Jobu black at an airshow yesterday with my 1DX and 500mm f4 :thumbs

I have owned and used extensively a Zone VI wooden tripod for my 4x5s, the Manfrotto 055XPROB, Manfrotto 190CXPRO, Gitzo GT2530, Gitzo GT2531, Gitzo GT0531, Benro Travel Angel I, Benro Travel Angel II, then the Sirui.

The only Sirui tripod I have tried was not so good. One of the legs broke and fell off it. I wrote about it a few months ago
