Assuming you want to trigger the SB-800 from the on-board flash, the first thing you do is go into the Custom Settings Menu on the camera to the Bracketing/Flash selection and choose Commander Mode. This allows you to control the SB-800 from the camera. Then set the Built-In Flash to TTL. Then put the Channel on 1.
Then put your SB-800 on Remote and set the Channel to 1 and the Group to A. And go from there. Now you can adjust the SB-800 power setting from the camera.
