p.1 #1 · Thistles; My first attempt at close up flower photos.

Out walking at Washougal, WA. Steamboat Landing area I came across this group of thistles. I thought I would try some close up photos. I don't have a macro lens so I tried my 24-70 2.8. Some slight modifing in Lightroom 4. I might be hooked and buy a macro lense. Maybe a 180mm 3.5?

Very lovely...why buy a macro when you can get these kinds of shots with a 24-70?

Good looking set with interesting compositions.
An inexpensive set of extension tubes might do the trick with glass you already own.

To my eye, the first one is sort of so-so, but the rest are really good - I like them a lot. Did you take the help of a tripod?

Very nice work Pat, 2 just rocks. If you are going to take the plunge with new glass the Sigma 150 2.8 APO macro is a wonderful lens.
