I'm assuming this will fix the issue of a lack of tethering ability between the 1DX and OS X?

I just had my PC fail and I built a new one. It uses Win 7 Pro 64 bit. I have a Canon 1Dmk2N that will not longer communicate with the EOS utility. My 1dMk3 still works as does my 5DMk2. I use the EOS Utility to set the clocks in all three cameras to that of the PC before a shoot. It keeps things simpler. Now, I cannot use the EOS for the 1DMk2N. I have called CPS, but they haven't a clue. Do any of you have any advice, absent manually setting the time?

Thanks

Do you mean it won't connect via Firewire?

The OS will find it when connected to USB, but the EOS Utility will do nothing. I connect firewire and the OS does not find it. I have always had to use the firewire connection to get to the camera settings like owner name and time set. Apparently, Canon as seen fit not to update the EOS utility to property see the 1DMk2N on the firewire bus. I have other firewire devices that do not have problems being recognized and utilized by the OS, this is not one of them.

Yea, firewire connection will only work with Windows XP 32 bit. I'm having a similar issue with my 1Ds Mark II and I'm about at the point where I'm going to partition my laptop's hard drive just so that I can install XP to get things like that changed.

XP or Vista 32 bit will work.

My old HP 5300's hard drive finally died a couple months ago.

I was going dual boot of one of my old 64 bit HP Elitebooks the 8530w or the 8730w.

But, I recalled that any 32 bit OS would work....We have a couple older 6707's with Vista 32 bit that we keep for visitors to use
.
Uploaded one of the old DPP discs onto one of these 6707's,plugged in the firewire to the 1Ds2 and viola, everything worked fine in the Canon utility.

Why can't Canon just fix this. They can make a camera that shoots 12fps, but they can't, or won't fix a FireWire driver?

The Firewire driver is not Canon's. It is Microsoft who dropped support for Firewire in 64bit Windows.

Can only fault Canon on the Mac implementation, where 3rd party utilities still work with Firewire cameras, while the newest Canon software doesn't.

I am using FireWire just fine with 64 bit Win 7. I have 5 external drives working just as well as they did under Win XP.

The 1394 bus driver that is included with Windows 7 replaces the 1394 bus drivers that were included with earlier versions of Windows.

Those who are having issues with Firewire not being supported in W7...follow these steps.

1- Click the Start Button, type devmgmt.msc in the “Start Search” box and press Enter.

2- Expand the "IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers" node in the device tree on the right hand pane

3- Right click the host controller node select "Update driver software ..."

4- Select "Browse my computer for driver software"

5- Select "let me pick from a list of device driver on my computer ..." and Check the box before “Show compatible hardware”.

6. Choose the second option---1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy), and click next to update the driver.

I got my 1D X and EOS Utility and the WFT program is working great in communication with the camera on both the Windows side of my macbook pro retina (running bootcamp (dual boot)). I'm using the ethernet to thunderbolt adapter and it got recognized by windows today and everything works great. Very happy!

p.1 #18 · Canon updates EOS Utility to version 2.11.4

resurrecting an old thread related to my new problem...

I updated EOS utility with my recent T4i purchase (thank's to Fred's notification of the B&H $599 kit deal).
Unfortunately, my 5D (classic) now triggers EOS utility to report "Failed to communicate with camera..."

Anyone else encounter problems with the 5Dc (or other old bodies) with the latest EOS utility? Any solutions?

This problem is on MacOS 10.6.8.

Thanks
