If you have either a AC3 or on camera Master flash you do not have to touch the Slave flashes other than to move them to a different location or pack up and go home. Making slave flash setting changes from camera is one of the major points of PW ControlTL system. I believe you're wasting money on these expensive wireless units if you are not controlling from camera....otherwise any much less expensive units can already do what you are doing with them (walking over and making manual changes).
This is what I have when using a very simple setup:
On camera: 1 TT5 Flex, OR 1 TT1, Mini. To control slave flashes (manual or ETTL) I also have an AC3 on top of the Flex or Mini
Remote flash (slave): is attached to a TT5. If your flash requires the sock simply place it on there with the shoe part that goes along with it.
*** with the above I never have to touch the remote flash again because the power settings are adjusted with the AC3 *** As I previously mentioned I purchased used 550EX flashes and they work fine without the sock and have 99% of the power of a 580EX I and II....Show more →
Thanks for the clarification. I was hoping I was doing something wrong, but it looks like maybe you aren't seeing the same issues because you are using the 550EX? I don't see using a sock or buying more accessories as a fix to the issue. And again, please understand I am not putting all blame on PocketWizard, my issues have been more to do with the RF interference from the 580EXII. A friend of sent his in to be modified and they are working MUCH better. I'm just tired of spending more money to try and get this setup working.

I don't need to control from the camera. What I need is to be able to shoot in manual at 1/8000 shutter speed. The TT5 will do high-speed sync in manual. That's why I went in that direction. The only other game in town when I purchased the PocketWizard was RadioPopper.
The nice thing is now we have more choices. And to be honest, the new Canon 600EX-RT is amazing at it's intended range. The darn thing just WANTS to work in wireless mode
