p.1 #1 · Price Check: Nikon 300mm F/2.8 VR II

I bought a Nikon 300mm F/2.8 VR II with a RRS replacement foot about a month ago. I'm starting to have second thoughts about it. It's still in "Like New" condition. If I were to sell it how much of a loss should be expected? 5%, 10%, 15%? Thanks.

It is a case of supply and demand. I would post it on the Buy&Sell forum at near its new price. The market will decide if you need to lower your price or not. Long glass seems to always be in short supply.

I'm curious why you don't like the lens?

Thanks for the suggestion. The lens is great, just looking for more versatility from a zoom.

Currently listed at B&H for $5800.00. I would expect you to get about $4800-5200.00 for it.

Why do you want to sell it? It is a legendary lens that is sharp, fast and works well with all 3 TC'S. Great for nature and sports.

I plan on keeping it for now. Just weighting my options and possibly going to the 200-400.

You'll be disappointed with that move if you are a stickler for IQ. The 200-400 rocks close up but any distant shots are less than stellar. The 300 VRII is simply the best 300 of any brand on the market. As mentioned, get so TC's to satisfy your thirst for flexibility.

I sold mine for $5150 about 3 or so mouths. So you should be able to get that I would think. Any price higher then that is not going to happen. I tried to sell mine for months at $5400-5500 and kept getting offers at a round $4800-5100, even got some nut that offered me $3800

I get nice results from my Sigma 300 f/2.8, but I still think it's a challenge to be limited to that particular focal length, especially for action. The Nikon 200-400 would be much easier to work with by far, even at f/4. It's just a matter of size, weight, and cost. For me, that's no, no, and no, nor could I justify it

Perhaps somebody has a 200-400 and wants the speed and top IQ of a 300. I few months ago I traded (swapped) my 300/2.8VRI for a 200-400VRI and we're both still happy.

I just resold David's for $5100 (but kept the foot). I'm rolling now with the "poor man's" 300 f2.8 / 200-400: the sigma 120-300 OS and 1.4X.
