p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · UPDATE: Using RadioPoppers - ever have issues?

I shot a wedding last w/end and my RP's failed me. Not entirely, but only fired about one in six shots.

Nothing to do with recycle times, nor any other normal things you might think of AFAIK.

I took them off and used line of sight (used to do this before Kevin started making his RP's) very successfully instead.

My placement was next to a large speaker by the DJ's setup. Could that be it, or perhaps they no longer like loud music?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Had problems all the time with Pxs. Swapped to Stratos and haven't had one problem.

What kind of ceiling situations were you dealing with? I've found Pxs to be horrible around metal ceilings. Same kind of 1-in-6 or 8 pops as you're describing. Had to move them extensively to get them to work. I never place my lights next to DJ speakers.

Also, I know you're Nikon, which may have some quirks I am unaware of. Maybe try changing channels?

There's a church near me where my RP's wouldn't work at all, either time I was there. It was ridiculous. Something
about the shape of the room I suppose, big dome ceiling.

I could agree with that too. Rafters in a couple of places seemed to give issues with them too. Had to lower and move them at that venue. Light at 6' sucks. lol

You never know what building structures. If everything worked after leaving your shooting location I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I had an E2 error on the transmitter, called CS and they stated that it was an internal error and to send the unit in for repairs. They charged me $179.00 to repair. Heck the unit brand new was only $250.00 so I had the unit repaired and purchased the pw mini system. Totally different, system but no problems after one year usage..

are you in nikon land or canon land? i had troubles with nikon strobes reliably triggering the RPs because the flash head moves too far forward in back while zooming. mine would trigger between 50 and 85mm zoom on the master but would fail at 100 to 200mm.

Another flawless wedding yesterday with my Phottix Stratos. Just sayin'.

Wish I could say the same for Canon AF.

The ones we used yesterday didn't ;-)

Alex has had no end of issues with his TT5 and Nikon system.

This is a mostly silly endless discussion. It's Mac vs PC, Nikon vs Canon, etc

Everyone has something positive to say about one system while others have negative things to say about the same. We're all shooting in different locations with different circumstances (and user's lack of tolerances). There is a pretty good chance that even moving to a different system there will be some sort of problem because of different strokes for different folks. A form of backup is always a great idea.

I know this is off the original question but I have found that with freshly charged batteries in the tt1/tt5 system, I experience no misfire. You can order that 2450 battery at amazon 6 for $9.00 vs 1 for $4.00 at Walgreens!!

Yesterday my PXs were firing full blast a couple of times despite me having them on manual mode in 1/16 power.
I had to turn the PX on and off to 'cure' it.

I also had the occasional time it refuses to fire outdoors in the open at 100' distance.
Other than that the PX has been quite good to me.

I am curious about the Phottix Odin though.

Any users here?
