wtf, I placed my order on 7/9/12. When I made the above post, 7/31/12, about them sending me just the base out. They told me it would be 2 weeks before I received the L part.
Ordered mine in June..still hadn't received and info. Called@James, found out salesperson never ordered the bracket but only took the invoice. Never got a copy of invoice either but when logged on to "My Account" invoice was there.
Had 2 Day air and and that was deleted for ground. Not happy!
2nd major order problem with RRS. 5DMK3 "L" plate and now this!

I received my Really Right Stuff L plate for my 1DX today, and I am happy with what I see of the design so far. The bottom plate part seems to match the slightly curved front edge of the 1DX perfectly, and thus the camera is cradled nicely with smooth curved faces with no edges or steps.
The interlock between the bottom plate and the two position L bracket side leg is very well done. I was worried that it may have a touch of play in it, but RRS has made the two parts go together in a way that pulls a tapered edge leg into a slot with matching tapered sides, and has allowed for the single clamping screw to pull the two parts together very tightly. There is just no way you could get wobble unless the screw was seriously loose, and the screw seems to tighten in a way that it will not come loose in normal use.
The screw that holds the two parts together is a short ¼-20 flat head screw, and the design did not allow for it to be captive. That means that it is subject to dropping and loss when changing the side L stand off position, or removing the side L for base plate only use. I will need to get a spare screw to have on hand for when I loose the original one. In my playing around I have changed the position about 6 times, and have all ready dropped the screw twice.
There is a place to store the required hex key on the bottom plate, where the key slides in to a hole and is retained with a magnet. I am not yet sure if I will use this feature, and will need to see how it works out.
The general fit and finish is very nice as you would expect from RRS. Edges are well rounded everywhere. The side leg structure seems to be a little thicker metal construction than previous RRS 1D series L brackets, which will make the whole structure a little more rigid. The side structure has a "loop over" design for where the wired remote control needs to protrude, and that connected loop over rather than a gap is another thing that makes the bracket that much more rigid.
Obviously all that extra metal makes this a heavy L bracket, but then again the whole camera is a little bit heavier than any previous 1D series camera, so the extra support stiffness may be justified.
The only negative I can express right now is for my particular shipment of my bracket where they forgot to include the captive screw that goes in to the camera to mount the bracket. The screw needs to be of a special short length and with a special smaller head size, so no existing RRS captive screw off of anything else I have will work. I am sure they will make it right and send me one when I call them tomorrow, and I hope that is a prompt shipment, because I leave for a trip at the end of the week and need to use my beautiful new L bracket.
A field report of this RRS L bracket for the 1DX by me is about two weeks away because of my travel schedule, and I will try to update everyone then.
