p.1 #1 · A+G - New Jersey E-sesh

Just saw Sahid's post as I was posting this. Here's another session with a dog.

Ventured off the Island and into Newark, New Jersey for this one. The only thing good about New Jersey is.....well, there really isn't anything good about New Jersey. Oh snap!

It was also hot as balls that day (over 100* and humid as hell). Luckily we shot later in the day when it was only in the mid-90's. These guys met and started dating while they were students at NJIT, so we headed there for their e-session.

Alan,
Remove the first 4 shots and do something with 7a.
Then your set will step up another notch.

Everything after that is solid.

Later,
Mark

I don't get the point of the tilt-shift (fake or real) in 12 -- to my eye, it doesn't change the feel of the composition or really draw attention to anything other than the fact that the top and bottom are out of focus.

I think the eye contact in 14 is really powerful, and predict that the groom in particular will really like that shot.

Dude, I think you did great considering it's freakin New Jersey. Really like 3 and 6. Composition in 3 is really nice, and the T/S works great on 6. Only thing I would've done differently is convinced them to venture off the campus for some shots.

Doing my first "dog" e-session, I gotta say, I'm not really a fan. They're spontaneous and hard to keep still, and if they're on a leash, anytime you try to take a pic of the couple, you have one of their hands getting pulled by it. Was that your experience too or do I just suck with dogs?

It was really hot, so I didn't have to deal with the dog for very long. A few shots and she was back in the AC. This is session was pretty tough for me. The couple is a little 'nerdy'. Very cool and very easy going, but awkward when it came to photos. They were not comfortable in front of the camera at all. I don't give much direction so that made it even tougher.

As far as venturing off-campus goes, you probably wouldn't want to stray too far in that neighborhood. There are parts of Newark that should not be explored, especially with a $3500 camera and a few grand in lenses.
