Here is one from today with 50L. I have 50L, 85L (newest version) and 70-200L IS II. I use the 70-200 most of the time. Think I need to keep the 50L for any inside parties where I need some more width. Still can't figure out about keeping 85L. If I sold it, I have a feeling I'd be said some day when I wanted to use it.
1 at F4 and 1 at 2.2. I have some at 1.8, but they are not so much in focus. I checked and the focus point is exactly on the dogs left eye. In the one I'm posting at 1.8, it looks like it focused more on the dogs head even though the focus point is on the eye.

The only rational is I got the 50L because inside 70 and 85 were often too long and since it is 1.2 that would give more light indoors. I haven't done much shooting with the 85L but I love how I can get beautiful background blur. I have a thing about spending my wife's money and buy more than I can chew.
As I mentioned earlier, I go to the 70-200 and use it on dogs a lot, which I need f5.6 or f6.1 to get the nose and eyes in focus and I zoom a lot. Zoom on kids a lot as well, but easier to get nose and eyes in focus.
for the 2e time, I bought this week a 50/1.2. couldn't resist the beauty of the colours anymore.
I loved and hated that lens and sold my first 2 years ago, because of the shift focus.
what about you? how do you handle the shift focus aperture 2.0-2.5 ?

tell me and make me restfully.
I microadjust at f2. That solves most of the problems, as that's pretty much exclusively the f-stop that I shoot at.
I really never noticed the focus shift but then again I usually shot it at f1.8 or larger. I had to choose the 85 or the 50 and I kept the 85 only because it is a better working focal length for me at 1.4 or 1.2.
Okay, Jefferson, I just officially joined the club.
The limited use I've put it to simply confirms my initial infatuation. So far, I've used it on three bodies (1Ds2, 5D2 and 5D3) and gotten great results on all three.
Color is excellent and accurate, especially in the two shots of my paintings -- I know those colors intimately!
Here is a short series I'll call "Book Ends", starting out with the dog theme. All shot wide open, ISO 100 unless noted otherwise. No special PP, other than LR4.2 sharpening at 60-0.6-36, CA box checked, and any slight exposure adjustment.
