p.1 #1 · Magpie Goose

The Magpie goose (Anseranas semipalmata) is a wetland bird that is reported to be common throughout northern Australia. For me, though, it was the first time that I'd been able to see them at reasonably close range and so I was very happy to get a few shots of it.
The bump on the head is characteristic of the species and increases in size as the bird gets older.

Congrats Lindsay. These are nicely captured, but I wouldn't call these geese pretty. ~ Ron

Nicely done Lindsay, thanks for sharing a bird that most of us on this forum have never seen before.

Thanks for your thoughts, Morris. At this time of year the light seems to be pretty much continuously hard, bright and glary in this part of the world. I wish it were nice and soft, especially as most of the birds are black and white, but it IS a nice place to spend winter

Thanks, Birdie. First it was an ibis impersonating a vulture and now, apparently, a goose. Since we don't have any vultures, I guess that other critters fell like they can make a fashion statement.
