p.1 #1 · How do you guys handle high temp outdoors

B/g want outdoor photos. Obviously I'm going to deliver, as I love it.

While I've got experience in weddings, I can honestly say I've never shot formals outdoors in 98 degree weather, high humidity, and 60% chance of thunderstorms.

Should i take a few sweat towels for the bridal party?

Im figuring my brides and grooms sweat all of the time, but I'm thinking close to 100 degrees...

Any advice? I'm not too worried, just ran acrossed my mind that I hadn't done it yet. Oh, and bridal party is big! Haha!

Definitely sweat towels. Suggest airbrushed makeup, as it holds up better for this.

You're only going to get so much time out of them outside, so discuss beforehand the option of doing very minimal photos with the others, and spending most of the time with the bride and groom 1 on 1.

I'd go for one big group shot, then get straight to portraits and tell the others to get back inside.

Just make sure you got a game plan. Look at the area first, look at the sun, look at the background, tell them what to do. Most B&G only think about location they think it is pretty. They dont think about the direction of the sun and the background.

The wedding party will probably give out due to the heat before he does!

Girls don't last as long as the guys in the heat and start to get whiney about it. Girls are less inclined to "soldier through" the shoot and their physical discomfort shows readily in their facial expressions.

I've had heatstroke once at a wedding (worst thing EVER.) and gotten very close at another...
It's EXTREMELY dangerous. For you and for them.

On certain days in the summer, I discuss up front with the planner and the couple and let them know that we will be shooting everything pre-ceremony indoors and everything outdoors won't happen until after when it's cooling down a bit. Going inside and outside and back inside and back outside exacerbates the problem. Multiple temperature shifts is actually more dangerous than just staying outside. So be careful. And start drinking water now... a gallon tomorrow. No joke. If you wait until Saturday to start hydrating it will just be too late and the only thing that will happen is you having to pee 10 times.

Down here in the oven ... the big "D"....

pre-planning goes along way. find shade to shoot with.

pre-planning includes water and agree with the air brush make-up.

Also think about yourself - get a hat or something, so you wont be exposed to direct sun. Plenty of water for everyone, towels and limo in standby with ice-cold AC running :-) Remote starter for your own car, maybe, too?

Small cloth along to the wipe the sweat off the camera's rear LCD screen.

I bring a change of shirt for the reception.

Loupe to view the rear LCD, blocking out the sun.

Bug spray if it's going to be buggy.

I just did a multiple-location shoot in the 90s and what I did was to NOT run the air in my car prior to the shoot. I did this to avoid having any condensation issues with the gear once you hop out of the car to do the actual shoot.

I use one of those hats that carries two cans on the side, with the little sippy straw

Thanks for the pointers everyone. We've had very nice weather recently, and wouldn't you know it...heat wave this weekend.

Ugh. We get those in Minnesota. VERY high humidity throughout the summer with random days breaking 100.

My solution: Get some under armor compression shorts and an under armor t shirt. It stopped all my sweating problems!

I'm "sweating" this for a wedding this weekend in SC. It's going to be the hottest day of the year, with a heat index of 111, and we're always blessed with high humidity. The wedding is indoors at 4:00, but the bride wants outdoor pictures before the ceremony. Go figure! I'm hoping she changes her mind.

This weekend will be a killer for many of us in terms of heat. Wear light colored clothing....and bring plenty of water.

Hell, I may just wear pants and a tie..forget the shirt all together
